Final Fantasy XIV

Issue history

The part did not have a direct and direct connection with previous games from this series, however, it borrowed elements of gameplay, plot and graphics from there. The action took place on the fictional mainland Eorzeya. The Garlean Empire is showing aggression against neighboring independent states, which, in turn, are trying to fight invasion attempts. The plot involved the game world, completing various quests, and interacting with other players.

The game was supported from September 2010 to November 2012, that is, for a little over two years. Since its release, the game has been subjected to quite a lot of criticism from people who have played it and from journalists. A significant drawback, according to critics, was its poor quality. The developer company Square Enix listened to the criticism, and in 2012 it decided to replace the low-quality game with a new, more elaborate version called Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The action develops in the same world as in the "raw" version. Players have even been granted permission to bring their characters here from an older version of the game.

How the gameplay looked like

The player was given a choice of five different playable races. You could choose a character from one of them, customize it to your liking and control it. Each race has two tribes in its composition, however, not each of them offers the opportunity to create a character both male and female at the same time. Customizing an avatar is about giving it an appearance: eye color, hair color, facial features, physique, and the like. How and where to start is also chosen by the player. In order to upgrade, he can choose one of two types of tasks.

A large proportion of the tasks in the game are designed in such a way that when they are completed, it is possible to avoid interaction with the rest of the players on a particular server as much as possible. This feature distinguishes this game from other similar role-playing games. Also, the game was notable for the absence of such a control element as auto control. Each skill had to be activated manually while focusing on the opponent.

Originally, the game limited the amount of experience (XP) a player could earn in a certain amount of time. Here, in this version, this interval was exactly one week. The time during which the player was given the opportunity to spend gaining experience was 8 hours a day. When the time was up, the number of points received for completing quests and defeating monsters dropped to zero for 7 hours. In total, for a week the player was allowed to spend only 15 hours of real time on gaining experience for his avatar. The rest of the time was devoted to the game "for fun".

According to the developers, this was done in order to equalize the possibilities of absolutely all players. They believe that players who have a lot of free time should not have an unreasonable advantage over other players who do not have the opportunity to play often and upgrade their characters adequately.

“Let's take a real-life example . Imagine that you are training in the gym for three or even four hours a day. And so on throughout the week. Will this be of any use? no. You can only do harm, it would be wrong to say that the strengthening of the body depends solely on the number of hours in the gym, ”the creators say, arguing their decision.

This innovation caused a strong negative response from avid players. In the revised version, the restriction was removed and has not yet been introduced.

Game classes (specializations)

A player character' s specialization is determined by their weapon, or lack of it. There are civilian and combat classes. Peaceful: Followers of Earth or Craft. Combat: Followers of War or Magic.
